The process of making a good horse changes everyone involved in it. It changes the horse and it changes the humans. Applying thoughtful and effective horsemanship principles, we work with horses in a way that is "horse-centered." That means that we choose to honor the horse's nature as a herd and prey animal, and see the training we do as a way to moderate those instincts and impulses so a horse can do a job comfortably and confidently in the human world.
We believe that "everything is connected to everything" in a horse. Our foundation-focused approach ensures that we not only work with horses during designated training sessions, but we are also building a thoughtful partner in the horse via daily handling and interactions. This thorough and detail-oriented method results in a horse who is an interactive partner on the ground and in the saddle.
Diagnostics
The 30-Day Evaluation and Diagnostic Program is for horses who are suspected to have physical and/or mental soundness issues. We will, with the help of our network of complementary professionals, determine the root source of the issue, if possible, and develop a comprehensive plan that puts the horse first. Then the horse can develop safe, reliable foundational skills based on their owner's goals.
Colt Starting
This is a 90-Day (minimum) Program to help your young horse develop the fundamental
mental, physical and emotional
skills to navigate their life with humans safely and confidently. They will grow in their awareness, willingness, and confidence through experiences in and out of the arena applying real-life skills to their work.
Foundation Confirmation/Advancement
In this 90-Day (minimum) Program we will take a deep dive into your horse's education to discover and fill in any "holes" that may be leading to unwanted or unsafe behaviors on the ground or under saddle. As soon as the elements of your horse's foundation check out, he or she will be offered an opportunity for advancement and to gain experience doing a job on The Farm. We will help you and your horse develop a willing partnership that you both can enjoy!
Lessons
Our goal for your horse's training is not just that we can get a job done, but that you feel confident, knowledgable and equipped to work with your horse at home. That is why we will arrange for you to come audit training sessions and take lessons, at no additional charge while your horse is in training.
Training In and Out of the Arena
Your horse will gain the skills to safely and confidently work on the ground and under saddle in the round pen, the arena, and out across our working cattle farm. This ensures that the horse's focus, willingness, and understanding of skills are not location-specific, but based on his or her trust in their human leader's ability to clearly communicate the expectations for the task at hand.

Yes, owners are welcome to come by to visit their horse while in training! We offer free lessons and times to audit training sessions so that you feel confident, knowledgable and equipped to work with your horse when he gets back home. Owner lessons take the place of a training session.
We simply ask owners to schedule your visits with us as our schedule has us tending to many responsibilities.
Training horse owners will need to supply us with a Current Coggins test and a Current Vaccination Record. Within a month of your horse's relocation to Ethos Equine/The Molena Horse and Cattle Company, have their teeth done by an equine dentist or veterinarian and have your farrier or trimmer do your horse's feet. Doing these two things ahead of time ensures that we do not lose training time waiting for this essential care.
Training horses are worked between five and seven days a week, with a weekly average of five hours-worth of work.
For the first few days to the first week your horse may get turned out by themselves as we make sure they are not going to show any signs of sickness. Once your horse is settled in, they may get turned out with 1-2 additional herdmates.
Yes, you are welcome to provide your horse's grain and supplements or we are happy to custom-tailor a feeding regimen based our forage-first feeding program supplemented with Purena products.

Yes, we can haul visiting horses to Dr. Weldon's clinic in Seale. The charge for this is $150.
